Starbound Ventures

STARBOUND VENTURES is a rules-lite TTRPG inspired by the golden age of science-fiction, especially the movies and TV series that lean more toward the ”fiction” than the ”science”. The Players take on the role of heroic individuals embarking on daring adventures across space - or even time itself. Along the way, they might encounter bizarre alien creatures, mysterious anomalies, or tyrannical space emperors. Above all, this game is about sharing fast-paced, pulpy adventures filled with over-the-top action and colorful characters.

THE SYSTEM

My goal for STARBOUND VENTURES was to add an extra layer of excitement for Players' actions by providing a chance to ”upgrade” their characters with each die roll. This way they might level up multiple times, even under a one-shot adventure, similar to how the main characters become larger-than-life heroes by the end of a blockbuster movie. Furthermore, I wanted to make even failures feel somewhat rewarding with a mechanic that is built into the system.
